Box Canyon Falls - A Scenic Waterfall In Ouray, Colorado (June 2006)
Inside the town of Ouray, there are two "must see"
waterfalls. Cascade Falls is on the northeast end of town,
and Box Canyon Falls is located on the southwest side of town. The entrance by car
is off of Highway 550 (southbound) and there is a $3 admission. Personally speaking, I think paying the $3 is well worth it! |
I thought this sign was very interesting! |
A metal walkway will lead you into the box canyon that
is a geological wonder! Not to mention, you'll very likely hear the loud roar of the waterfall. |
Now this is a very tall waterfall, but here is the lowest bowl that water spills into. |
It was difficult to capture the falls on camera, but this
is my best shot of Box Canyon Falls. Notice the two crevaces in the upper left, then middle right,
followed by the bowl at the bottom. All I can say is, if you are in Ouray, you really need to see this in person! ;) |
Along the walkway, I looked up and photographed the bridge at the top
of the box canyon. |
It is an uphill 0.25? mile hike one way to reach the bridge. Here is an interesting sign about the topography of the Ouray and San Juan Mountains region. |
A shot of the bridge. |
Looking uphill into the canyon. Again, my camera does
not do a service whatsoever to how beautiful it was! |
You'll have a great view of the town of Ouray from the bridge. How scenic! |
